ALWAYS RIGHT

A Ball which is always on the right side.

Target Line

We want to allow for mistakes. Let’s develop a Drive which is always on the right side of your intended target line.

Your intended target line, doesn’t have to be in the middle of the fairway.

Let’s see some examples

Imagine a straight hole

Target line on the left side of the fairway

Corridor is always right of target line

Corridor shots fly with a draw in the corridor

Next to the corridor is the safe zone

Mistakes are a Push and a Slice into safe zone

Left of target line is outside. You don’t want any shots crossing the target line. Not even during flight!

Even when they land in the corridor. They are outside shots as soon as they cross the target line during flight.

Dogleg Left

Assuming three identical shots, a Hook, a Draw and a Slice. Let’s see, how different target lines, can lead to different results.

Dogleg Left Where should you hit your ball?

Where would you place the target line? Center?

One Bad Shot
Hook in, Draw in and Slice out.
One Bad Shot, although you aimed at center.

Two Bad Shots
Pull out, Draw out and Slice in.

  1. If you hit an “always right” curve, the ball is never allowed to cross the target line on the left side. Not even during flight.
  2. Leave some room for mistakes, don’t choose your target line too aggressive.
  3. Don’t always aim at the middle of the fairway, this can lead to unnecessary errors.

It’s about your ability to curve the ball from right to left. Ideally over time your window of shots gets smaller and smaller that you can aim closer to your target.

Develop “Always Right”

Since the starting direction and curvature is most depending on your face angle. The drills now focus a lot on influencing this parameter, together with your alignment. It is very important that you don’t try to change your swing.

Your skills are already developed with the other segments. It doesn’t matter, if your swing is from the outside or from the inside.

I repeat don’t change your swing.

How is this helping me on the course?

After you have trained on the course, you will know where it’s best to hit Draws.
This is mainly depending on your personal preferences.

START YOUR TRAINING!

Always Right: 5 Training Sessions

These 5 Training Sessions can be spread out over 2-4 weeks, depending on how often you train.

  • Before starting the training revisit how to train

  • Apply the 20 | 20 | 20  minutes rule

  • Combine this training plan with one short game skill or do a short break in between
